Colletia hystrix

A curious shrub, appearing evergreen because its leaves have been converted to large rounded spines which photosynthesise as a leaf does. the white or pale pink flowers appear in September and October in numbers and are sweetly scented. It grows to 3-4 m x 3 m. Drought and wind tolerant, requiring care in placement due to its spiny nature.
