Passiflora caerulea

Blue Passion flower. A fast growing, evergreen climber using tendrils to clamber up any supports available. The flowers are exotic; steely blue with an intrincate centre. They are produced in profusion throughout summer and autumn. The orange edible fruits appear in autumn.

Ophiopogan planiscapus 'Nigrescens'

Black grass, Lily turf. A member of the lily family rather than a grass. It has evergreen dark, almost black foliage which reaches only 10-15 cms. Best in full sun and the colour shows well against light coloured plants or gravel/pebbles.

Lespedeza thunbergii

Named after the plant hunter
Thunberg, this is an arching deciduous sub shrub with long annual stems covered in magenta flowers in late summer/autumn. Requires an open position and cutting back each year to keep it in bounds when it will reach 2 m.

Lavandula lanata

A larger lavander with woollier foliage. Flowers blue purple throughout summer to 1 m. Less hardy than Lavandula angustifolia.

Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'

Dwarf evergreen shrub with silver, aromatic foliage. Flowers purple throughout the summer. Small hairs on foliage make it resistant to dry conditions. Full sun. Used for dwarf hedges.

Hibiscus syriacus 'Woodbridge'

Shrubby Mallow in Ireland. Upright deciduous shrub needing a warm summer for the best display of its saucer shaped pink flowers. Flowers in late summer and best in a sunny sheltered position where the wood will ripen for best results.
